A Gesture of Care: BHC Foundation and North Stars Introduce the Family Care Pass

The Battlefords North Stars, are proud to partner with the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation to introduce a new community initiative, the North Stars Family Care Pass.
This program was created with the intention of ensuring there is no spotlight, no requirement to explain personal circumstances, and no expectations attached, just an offering of care.
At its core, the Family Care Pass is simple. The Foundation holds a bundle of reserved North Stars tickets and distributes them fully at its discretion to individuals and families who may need a moment of normalcy. This may include families facing illness, loss, or recovery; individuals experiencing mental health challenges; and health care staff who may benefit from stepping away for an evening of connection and enjoyment.
There is no application process, no public recognition, and no obligation. The intention is not promotion, but presence. Sometimes support looks like community, connection, and a place to simply be without questions or explanations.
Our role in this initiative is to offer a welcoming space and to ensure the program remains respectful, consistent, and ongoing. Together with the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation, this partnership reflects a shared belief that care does not need to be loud to be meaningful.
“At the Foundation, we see every day how much people carry, often quietly,” says Leanne Ducommun, Executive Director of the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation.
“This initiative is about meeting people where they are, without asking them to explain or justify their need. It’s a simple gesture, but one rooted in dignity, trust, and compassion.”
Hockey has always been about community, and this partnership allows us to extend that sense of belonging beyond the rink.
The Battlefords North Stars team and organization is grateful for partnerships like this one that understand healing and hope are often found in small, thoughtful moments, and that care can be offered quietly, with heart.
